Warning about impersonating Vietnam Oil and Gas Group for recruitment fraud

Recently, on social networks, a number of Facebook pages impersonating the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) have continued to appear, running recruitment advertisements that attract the attention of many people. Facebook pages with logos, banners and information similar to the official website of Petrovietnam post attractive recruitment information, with high salaries and good promotion opportunities. However, this is actually a rather sophisticated scam.
Responding to recent recruitment information posted on social networks, a representative of the Communications and Corporate Culture Department of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group affirmed that Petrovietnam does not post recruitment information on any social networking sites; all official information from the Group is always posted through the official website: pvn.vn.

One of the ways to identify scammers is that fake Facebook pages are often created recently; the content and images posted are sketchy, copied from newspapers; recruitment information is sketchy, lacking details, with spelling or grammar errors. In particular, these pages often provide strange links, which will lead to a fake website with an interface similar to the official website of Petrovietnam. These websites are actually created through Google's popular online website creation application, Google Site, and have the sole function of collecting application information from candidates.

The fake Facebook page was created on September 6, 2024 and is running recruitment ads.

The link for candidates to register their application information is not related to the official website of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group.

The fake website is created on the popular online website creation application platform of google, google site, which anyone can create.

After the candidate contacts to submit their application, the group will send an email congratulating the candidate for passing the screening round, then requesting the candidate to participate in an internal training course of the Group. To participate in this training course, the candidate must download an application called “Signal” to their phone, which is said to be an “internal application” of Petrovietnam. However, this is actually a private and highly secure messaging application; especially, it is not yet very popular and few people know about it. After that, the candidate will be guided to join private chat groups created on this application. From here, the scammers will introduce to users high-profit investment opportunities, thereby gradually defrauding and appropriating assets.

The email that the scammer sent to the candidate. The email content had many capitalization and grammar errors; at the same time, the candidate was asked to install the Group's "internal application" to easily carry out the next steps of the scam.

Previously, on the social network Facebook, there have been many cases of impersonating the brands of oil and gas companies posting recruitment information to defraud and appropriate the assets of applicants. Some of the businesses that have been impersonated include: Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Corporation (PVEP), Vietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS), Vietnam Oil Corporation (PVOIL), PetroVietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo), PetroVietnam Transportation Corporation (PVTrans)...

Fake pages post recruitment ads all over Facebook.

The above enterprises have announced that some social networking sites have taken their images, brands, and logos to post recruitment posts. Representatives of these enterprises affirmed that these sites are all fake; the enterprises are not related to and are not responsible for the activities of these social networking sites. When there is a recruitment plan, the enterprises will officially post information through the recruitment channels of service providers or official websites, not posting recruitment posts through social networking sites. Representatives of the units also said that they will only organize written tests on paper at the enterprise's headquarters. If the test results are satisfactory, candidates will be invited to interview in person, online tests will not be organized, and no fees will be collected from candidates.

Faced with increasingly sophisticated fraud schemes on the Internet, authorities have issued many recommendations to people, absolutely do not listen to and follow the enticements of financial investments that bring high profits; absolutely do not participate in chat groups, do not invest in websites and apps without carefully researching information about the managing unit. In case of suspicion of fraud, people and investors need to immediately report to the nearest police agency for timely support and handling./.
